Stephen “Steve” Roy Gomes, 67, beloved Father, was called home to Heaven on August 20th, 2021 in Henderson, Nevada.
Born on February 18th, 1954 in Middleboro, Massachusetts, a son of the late Albert and Julia Gomes (Pina), he had resided in Middleboro for most of his life.
Stephen graduated Middleboro High School in 1972. Stephen, a retired Staff Sergeant, served in the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1986--an achievement he was exceedingly proud of. Following his service in the Air Force, he completed an Associate’s Degree in Business. One of Steve’s greatest passions was his product design, X-WAY Apparel. Steve worked for Comcast for a number of years--he was voted “Salesman of the Year” for Southern New England, for which he was recognized. Later in life, Steve returned to college and completed a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
Stephen is survived by two children. His daughter, Callie B. Fraga, along with her husband Euric Fraga II, of New Bedford, MA. His son, Seth S. Gomes, along with his companion Alicia Croteau, of Woonsocket, RI. He is also survived by Bethany I. Ratcliffe, his former wife and loving companion, of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Stephen’s children were loved beyond measure--his greatest blessings.
Stephen is survived by two brothers: Albert Gomes Jr. along with his wife Cathy, of Peachland, NC and Michael Gomes along with his wife Melynda of Portland, Oregon. Stephen is survived by two sisters: Lorraine Gomes of Middleboro, MA and Diana Gomes Vincent along with her husband Tom of Haverhill, MA. Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, his sister; Barbara J. Mendes and her husband Louis of Hansen, MA; and his brother Richard Gomes of Middleboro, MA.
Stephen leaves behind a multitude of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Stephen was the uncle of the late Keko Gomes, of Peachland, NC.
Steve enjoyed driving, watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Boston Bruins play, and spending time with his loving family. Steve will be remembered as a light in the lives of so many--his infectious smile, his ability to bring on laughter no matter the occasion, a proud family man and true gentleman. An amazing dad who provided an abundance of love, wisdom, and overwhelming joy. To know him is to love him, as his kids would often say.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11 am on October 9th, 2021 at Hope Evangelical Community Church in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Burial will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery at a later date to follow.
The family of Stephen Gomes wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of Stephen’s doctors, nurses, ancillary staff and all involved in Stephen’s care at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus, in Henderson, NV. As a lover of cats, donations in Stephen’s name can be made to the Fair haven Animal Shelter, in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.
