Kathryn Butler

December 6, 1988 — September 9, 2022

Las Vegas

Kathryn Linn Butler (Katie, Kate) was born December 6th, 1988 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Steve and Trudy Butler.  She peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 9th, 2022 at her residence in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was an exuberant child who kept her parents on their toes.  She was fearless and always up for an adventure.  When she would break a wrist or get stitches, she never let that slow her down and then always proceeded with an adventurous story.  She made friends wherever she would go, and if you ask her friends, they would tell you, “It was always fun when Kathryn was around.”

She worked hard in school and pushed herself to surpass her goals.  Her family moved around the country in her youth:  Utah, Arizona, New Jersey, Arizona and back to Utah where she graduated from Skyline High school in 2007.  She was active in school sports and various clubs; she was a born leader.

After graduating, she became a Ute at the University of Utah (following the legacy of her Grandfather and Grandmother). She graduated in 2010 with a Communications degree and was a member of the sorority, Alpha Chi Omega.  She didn’t stop there, she jumped straight into law school at the University of Las Vegas (William S. Boyd School of Law).  She graduated in 2014, following the footsteps of her Grandfather Jerry in becoming a lawyer.  She was barred in Nevada and New York and had the opportunity to practice in both states.

Katie fulfilled her “FRIENDS” dream of living in NYC in 2019-2020, but her heart always belonged to Las Vegas.

She had a true love for fitness; she would get anyone on board with her to try different fitness classes.  She especially loved the high heat classes.  She loved being a trainer and helping people around her accomplish their goals.

She cheered on her Utes, Saints, Yankees, Knights, and NYCFC and would go to their games anytime she had a chance.  She loved her family and would get out and celebrate holidays and make memories with her nieces and nephews.  She attended different concerts and events and loved all the shows that came through Las Vegas.

Kathryn was very spirited and spoke her mind.  She had confidence in herself and strived to be independent and always wanted to do things her way. She had great relationships with her mother, father and sister throughout her life.

She traveled the world; she saw the Eiffel tower, climbed up the Statue of Liberty, scuba dived in the ocean, held baby tigers, and enjoyed various foods from different cultures. She loved food; she especially loved cheese and cake (just so it wasn’t chocolate).

Kathryn found a lot of joy in giving to those in her community.  She would adopt a child for Christmas and would love making someone’s Christmas special.  She was a vibrant person and her presence was known when she entered any room.

Kathryn was predeceased by her Grandpa Stephen Sroufe (Richfield, UT), Grandma Barbara Sroufe (Richfield, UT), and Grandpa Jerry Butler (Logan, UT).  She is survived by her grandmother Anne Butler, father Steven Butler (wife, Belinda), mother Trudy Butler Fitzpatrick (husband, Jim), sister Sara (husband Seth), her nieces, Kyla and Lacy, and her nephews, Owen, Cade, and Knox.

She was loved by many and will be missed. She will be remembered with a Celebration of Life held in Las Vegas, NV, on December 6th, 2022.  More information to come.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation through the link below.
