Donald Meyer

CDR Donald C. Meyer (U.S. Navy, ret.) 86 of Las Vegas NV passed away on December 25, 2020, in Las Vegas. Don passed away in his sleep of natural causes and now with our savior, Jesus Christ.

Donald C. Meyer was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John & Lena Meyer on June 14, 1934. Don was affectionately known as “everybody’s friend.” The nickname “Windy” was given to him by his elementary teacher because Don loved to talk. Don graduated High School from Davis High School in Utah and upon graduation from the University of Utah, he joined the Navy and Officers Candidate School in 1957. Don met the love of his life, a pretty Naval Nurse named Barbara Thompson, while they were stationed in the Philippines (Barbara outranked him.) Their love story lasted for 61 happy years. Don is survived by his wife Barbara, Son: Christian/Terri Meyer, Daughter: Mary/Mark Grant, and Son: Patrick Meyer. Grand Children: Kyle and Alexandra Meyer, Andrew, Aidan, and Alexis Grant.

Don earned his Naval Aviation flight wings by completing six solo landings aboard USS Antietam CVS-36 in 1958. Don served as an officer on USS Intrepid-CVS-11, USS Yorktown CVS-10, USS Robert A Owens DD-827, USS Cogswell DD-651, and Commander Destroyer Squadron 19, Executive Officer Naval Station Guam, Commander Fleet Training Group San Diego. Donald C. Meyer retired honorably from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of active duty on August 1, 1979.

Before his naval retirement, Don earned his Masters of Business Administration in 1977.

Don participated in the Atmospheric Nuclear Test on Johnson Island aboard the USS Yorktown and often said it was the scariest thing he ever experienced.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 8:30 AM. Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV. Military burial with Color Guard.
