Delmer Garner

November 18, 1926 — March 8, 2021

Las Vegas

On Monday, March 8, 2021, Delmer “Reddy” Garner, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 94. He is survived by his children, Anthony, Gary, Terry, Gail, Delmer, Teresa, Aleta and Anita, as well as his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was born in Ogden, Utah on Nov. 18, 1926 to Asa Eli Garner and Susan R. Grier. He was the 6th child born of 7 siblings. Delmer was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served our country proud in World War II.

Delmer lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho and married Elda Smith, and they had 4 children: Delmer, Teresa and their twins Aleta & Anita. Sadly, Delmer & Elda divorced and Delmer moved to Carson, CA where he was a proud commercial plumber for UCLA. He later met MaryAnn Harvey, a bartender at a local bar in Carson, and they fell in love. They loved planning trips with family; camping, fishing and hosting poker games. MaryAnn had 6 children from her previous marriage: Dennis, Barb, Debbie, Gary, Terry and Gail, and then in 1970, MaryAnn and Delmer were blessed with their only son, Anthony Robert Garner.

When Delmer retired, they moved to Lake Elsinore, CA with Gail and Anthony, and made a life for themselves. Once Gail and Anthony were out on their own, Delmer and MaryAnn decided to follow their family to Las Vegas, NV. As empty nesters, they loved to go out to shows and dinners but always made time for family events.

MaryAnn passed away on February 23rd, 1997 and Delmer was heartbroken, but knew he had to be strong for their family. Delmer’s love for MaryAnn was so strong that even after she passed he bought her cards for all their special dates: her birthday, Valentine’s Day, their Anniversary and even Christmas, and always addressed them “To my love.” The family found all of these cards in a drawer in his room after he passed away. Delmer was a man of Christ and went to church every Sunday he was able. He attended Christ Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, NV, and after each service he drove to Davis Memorial Park to visit his beloved MaryAnn.

Delmer was a loving man and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was as stubborn as an ox and hated change; hard work and elbow grease over computers and cell phones any day. He loved talking about his family, sports, politics, his career and his time in the Marine Corps. Through his many achievements in life, his greatest joy came from spoiling his grandchildren. He touched so many people’s hearts and will truly be missed.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 at 11 AM at Davis Funeral Homes & Memorial Park located at 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89118. The service will be held outdoors at the Chapel of Roses B, East Wall Tier 4.
