Charles Hunt

April 9, 1929 — April 3, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Augustus Hunt announces his passing on April 3, 2021, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 91. Charles (aka “Chick”) was born in Anaheim, California, to Charles Augustus Hunt and Mary Georgiana Lewis Hunt on April 9, 1929. He died while in hospice care in Las Vegas. He will be laid to rest at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, California, in the Hunt family burial grounds. There will be a celebration of life for Charles in Las Vegas at a date yet to be determined.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Laree; his son, Randy (Ada) Hunt, and his daughter, Jill Gardner; his brothers, Terry Hunt and Joel Hunt; his grandchildren, Randi (David) Slayton, Rob (Sarah) Gardner, and Ryan and Stephen Hunt; and his great granddaughters, Miriya, Autumn, and Danielle Slayton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Hunt.

In 1949, Charles married Mary Louise Gardner, and they were together for 30+ years and had two children. He then married Laree Dix in 1981, and they were a happy couple for 40 years until his passing. For most of his working life, he was a cost estimator at Northrop Grumman in California. At various times in his life, he loved parties, square dancing with Laree, golfing, playing bridge, boating at Lake Mohave (especially being the captain and pulling the water skiers), light gambling and nightlife in Laughlin, going to shows on the Vegas strip, and taking trips with Laree all over the world.

The family of Charles A. Hunt wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Welbrook Grand Montecito Assisted Living Facility in Las Vegas (especially Dawn) for taking such good care of him and being so generous during the year he was there under pandemic restrictions. We also thank Davis Funeral Homes in Las Vegas and Fairhaven Memorial Park for coordinating Charles’ transfer to Santa Ana and for their kind and caring assistance.
