Roberto A Hernandez

April 6, 1936 — March 28, 2026

Las Vegas

It is with great sadness, but also deep gratitude for a life rich in love and adventure, that the family of Roberto A. Hernandez announces his passing on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the age of 89.

Roberto was born in Harbor City, California, in 1936—the baby of the family and the only sibling who didn’t follow his brothers into the Army. True to form, he forged his own path. In high school he ran track and field and cross country, setting the tone for a lifetime of energy and determination. He later proudly served four years in the United States Air Force.

After completing his military service, Roberto began his aircraft maintenance career at McDonnell Douglas before moving on to Lockheed Martin, where he retired from in 1997.

Roberto loved the simple joys of Southern California life: going to the beach, cheering on his beloved L.A. sports teams (especially the Los Angeles Angels), and enjoying westerns—Gunsmoke was a household staple. He had a deep appreciation for jazz, especially Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and he taught himself how to box, becoming a lifelong fan of the sport.

He was also a man who knew how to enjoy life’s comforts. Breakfast outings were one of his favorite pastimes, and he never turned down lemon meringue pie, Cane’s chicken, or a Tecate beer during football season. His dogs, Kona and Bebe, were spoiled with the same affection he gave everyone he loved.

Roberto and his wife Vera built a life full of movement and memories, living in Paramount, Hacienda Heights, West Covina, and eventually settling in Las Vegas in 2002. Wherever they went, they brought family with them—sometimes literally, sometimes through the gravitational pull of their hospitality.

Roberto loved the open road and the great outdoors. Family vacations often meant long drives through Nevada, Arizona, and California, or camping trips in National Parks. One unforgettable Lake Tahoe trip was spent in nonstop thunder, lightning, and rain—but it still became one of the best family adventures ever.

Above all, Roberto was a family man. He had a big heart, a generous spirit, and a quiet strength that made him the person everyone could rely on. He helped without hesitation, loved without limits, and built a legacy rooted in kindness, loyalty, and devotion.

Roberto will be lovingly remembered by his children, Robert Hernandez Jr. (Isabel) and Sarah Contreras; his grandchildren, Michael Barajas, Natasha Beeck (Nicholas), Daniel Barajas (Corrina), Gabriel Espinosa, Andrew Contreras, and Vanessa Contreras; his great‑grandchildren Grace, Audrey, Daniel Jr., Alina, and Alma; and many other family members and friends whose lives he touched.

He is reunited in heaven with his loving wife of 59 years, Vera Hernandez; his daughter, Jacqueline Hernandez; his great‑granddaughter, Celestina Barajas; his siblings, Pedro Hernandez, Enrique Hernandez, Jimmy Hernandez, Esperanza Perez, and Lucille Moraga; and his parents Enrique Hernandez and Refugio Hernandez.

Roberto lived a full, joyful, hardworking life filled with family, music, road trips, good food, loyal dogs, and the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. His stories, laughter, and love will continue to echo through the generations he leaves behind.

May he rest in peace, and may his memory always bring a smile.
