Paul Leo Liberty passed away peacefully on June 16, 2020. Above all, he was a devout Christian. He often said “Believe in the Lord, and you will add a billion years to your life.” He made it to 91 but will certainly be with God for eternity.
He was born as Paul Leo LaLiberté in Windsor, Ontario Canada to Joseph LaLiberté and Rose Ann Marie (Champagne) on January 24, 1929. After graduating from college and completing his Canadian military service, he moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1955 before moving to Las Vegas in 1998 for the remainder of his life. Paul was a businessman and entrepreneur. He started and then sold State Aerial Photography, which is still in operation today. He was successful in the oil exploration business, forming and running Liberty Petroleum Corporation in the 1960’s and 70’s. While in Toledo, he owned the upscale Roman Gardens restaurant in the 1970’s, and the Palladium Nightclub in the 1980’s, among several business ventures throughout his life. He travelled the world and had a special interest in learning at least a few words of greeting in many languages so he could have friendly conversations with anyone regardless of their native tongue.
In the mid 1980’s, he left the corporate world to devote himself to his faith in semi-retirement. He met Barbara Russell, who became his best friend and the love of his life, eventually marrying her on July 4, 1998. He frequently joked that the whole country celebrated with fireworks and celebrations every year on their wedding anniversary. He was devoted to Barb, and she described him as the gentlest man she had ever met. Through each other, their faith in God deepened with each passing day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Delia, and his brothers Earl, Norman, Joseph, Leonard and Edward.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Barbara Liberty, his brothers James and Gerard (King) with Marilyn Gagliano, his sister Blanche with husband Leo Plant, his daughter Linda and granddaughters Patti with Darryl Neufeld and Juliesa with Justin Manning; his daughter Christine with husband Michael Shepard; his daughter Victoria and granddaughters Honi with husband John Mathews and Alissa Marquardt; his son Vincent with Jane Mc Kechnie and grandchildren LynMarie with husband Michael Ellington, Vincent Anthony Liberty JR, William Liberty, Bethanie Charpie and Sara Lynn Pelc; son Richard with wife Barbara and grandchildren Nicole and Jordan; and son William with wife Miriam and grandchildren Casey and Lance. Paul also has 21 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren!
The family is exceedingly grateful to the remarkable caretakers and staff of Avamere of Cheyenne Senior Living (especially Melissa Phillips, thank you for being Paul’s advocate), and to the Encompass Hospice program team who provided excellent care of him the past two years.
Due to the current health and travel restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic, visitation and funeral services will not be held. Please do not send flowers. Donations in Paul’s name may be made to the American Lung Association or the Alzheimer's Association. The family of Paul Liberty would love for you to remember him with a happy memory.
