September 29, 2023, Jacob Anthony Montez, 22, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of his home- his favorite place to be. That night God opened up his arms to our Jakie and placed him in the presence of our loved ones in Heaven.
Jacob was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 29, 2001 at Sunrise Hospital. Even though Jacob lived with Autism, he was able to live a life where he was independent. Throughout the years he was able to learn how to cook, clean and be organized. In fact, sometimes he was too clean. If things were not in the proper place then he would just throw the items away. He has thrown away blankets, brand new clothes, and even a brand new pair of shoes! While at the time it may have been a bit frustrating when that would happen, it was always something for us to be able to look back on and laugh. We couldn’t complain because let’s be honest- out of all his siblings he was definitely the cleanest.
Even through his trials, Jacob persevered and graduated from Legacy High School in 2019. He always had a love for numbers. He was always our go-to person who would count down the days to school breaks, family vacations, and his favorite holiday-Christmas. He would research some of his favorite collectibles and tell us exactly what year it came out.
Jacob was extremely great with technology and developed a passion for gaming. Throughout the years he had different gaming consoles such as Play Station, Xbox, Game Cube, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Switch and his favorite- his gaming computer. No matter which gaming system he picked up, he was always a natural.
Jacob’s room was filled with collectibles like Funko Pops, Mighty Beans, Skylanders and many more! He loved retro gaming and that was the theme of his room. Everything from slippers, clothing and wall décor, was retro gaming themed.
While sometimes he couldn’t always express his feelings, he always made sure he showed us his love. From kisses on the forehead to embracing us in a big bear hug where sometimes he would end up in fits of giggles because he was ticklish. He was always great at saying “I Love You”. He valued family so much that if you were sad he would come and check on you. That if you took up a new hobby he would support you and want to keep your creations in his room to cherish them. He even had a large photo collage in his room that was shaped as a tree and in the center of it are the words “Family”.
He had an amazing mind and heart and taught his family so much about a life we never imagined. We were blessed by God to be able to be the family chosen to care for Jacob. God knew that he would need a family of patience and understanding to be able to guide him and help him learn the ways of this world. Jacob is survived by his Father Jerry Montez and his Mother Veronica Montez. Two amazing parents who dedicated their entire lives to making Jacob feel loved and secure. Jacob is survived by his older sister Eileen Almaguer who would try to take him a little out of his comfort zone by showing him new places or trying new things. Jacob is survived by his brother Noah Montez who was always someone he could look up to as they grew up together. He is also survived by family and friends who he was able to make laugh or make them feel loved. He was always great about welcoming someone with a big hug and amazing bright infectious smile.
Thank you God for giving us this beautiful Angel who we know will continue to watch over us.
Jakie- thank you for your smiles, your love, and for just being you. You will truly be missed and will always be in our hearts. We love you forever, our angel.
