Gerald D. Walker, 84, of Las Vegas, passed away Jan. 17, 2011. He was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Rushville, Ind., and was a 50year resident of Nevada. Gerald proudly served our country as an Army paratrooper during World War II. He was a part of the Battle of the Bulge campaign during the end of the war. After adjusting to civilian life he worked in various fields including working for Chicago Mobile Oil, building engineer, and RR Donnelly. During that time he met and married his wife, of 61 years, Lorraine. He and his wife opened a candy store and deli for the neighborhood. He was always looking to help the neighborhood and under privileged children. In 1961, he and his family moved to Las Vegas. He worked at the Stardust Hotel for 22 years as a casino dealer. Before retiring, he worked a total of 30 years as a Las Vegas dealer. All of Geralds life he strived helping people from all walks of life giving of him self personally. He was never a stranger to anyone and friend to everyone. He spent his life making the world better. Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Hughes Walker mother, Nellie Walker brother, Robert and Donald and sisters, Norma Lee, Jean Drew and Mickey Campanille. Gerald is survived by his wife, Lorraine sons, Gerald and John Walker daughters, Barbara Plummer and Dory DelPrado 10 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. Visitation will be 15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Niche side services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Davis Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice as Gerald believed in giving back to the community.
