B. Richard Black, 76, passed away on September 8, 2025, in his chosen home of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Born on January 3, 1949, in Hollywood, California, B. Richard was the youngest of four children of Thompson and Katherine Black, and the brother of Robert Thompson “Tom", Virginia, and Ruth Ann, all of whom have passed before him.
He attended St. Ambrose Boys School before enrolling at California State University, Northridge. His education was interrupted when he proudly answered the call to serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After his service, B. Richard returned to Cal State Northridge and earned his bachelor's degree in political science.
B. Richard married Sheryl Goggins in 1972, and they had three children together: Jon, Alexandra, and Cameron.
In his later years, B. Richard met Joanne Mondelo, whom he married in 2007, and they had a son, Thompson.
He retired after a rewarding career serving the youth at the San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center.
A lifelong Raiders fan, B. Richard’s passion for the game was well known to family and friends. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and supported its missionary efforts around the world. He was a member of the American Legion Post #149 and spent the last few years of his life serving at the Post.
B. Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne “Anne”, his four children, Jon, Alexandra, Cameron, and Thompson, and his many cherished grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 29th at Davis Funeral Home Rainbow Chapel. Burial will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
