Addie Vernell Brown

Mother Addie Vernell Brown entered into the arms of the Lord on November 30, 2023. Addie was born to the late Augusta “Chip” Harris and Bertha Harris on April 13, 1942. She was the fifteenth child of sixteen children. Addie was preceded in death by her loving husband – Eugene Brown, her Parents Augusta and Bertha Harris, and siblings: Eugene, Naomi, Eula Mae, James, Ernest, Ernestine, Ethel Mae, Bertha Lee, Greedley, Willie James, Alonzo, Margaret & Frank.

Addie was educated in the Nichburg, Alabama school system, where she excelled academically, especially in Math. Addie relocated to California in 1956, where she married her lifelong husband, Eugene Brown in 1961. To this union, four children were born: David Eugene, Douglas Lamont, Jacquelyn Ann & Joycelyn Lanette.

Addie had a kind, gentle soul and spirit and was beloved by all. Addie loved her family and dedicated her life to raising her children. After her children completed middle school, Addie was employed by the State of California, at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for over 25 years. She retired in 2012. Addie was a faithful member of Blood Covenant Church, under the direction of Pastor Anthony Bennett, where she was the Treasurer and served as a church Mother.

Addie leaves to cherish her memories: two sons David Brown and Douglas Brown (California) and two Daughters, Joycelyn Brown Guarneri (James) of California and Jacquelyn Brown Brooks (Maurice) of Nevada. She also leaves two siblings - sister Mazzie Rowland (California) and Augusta “Gus” Harris jr. (California), two grandchildren – Jayden Eugene Guarneri and Jaelyn Brooklyn Guarneri (California), A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, extended relatives and Friends.
